Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between an open-profile key and a restricted key?
A restricted or registered key is only available from either a single named stockist or a group of manufacturer approved distributors. William Channon, for example, supply various restricted keys for Abloy, ASSA and Kaba locks Am open-profile, or unrestricted, key can be duplicated by any key cutter holding the correct key blank and there will be no requirement to hold a registration card.
Key security is vital for most commercial buildings, and a restricted key/locking system supports your duty of care to protecting your building and its occupants.
Will my key always be restricted?
Many restricted keys are protected by patent, and patents have a limited lifespan. Once a patent has expired you may be at risk from unauthorised key duplication. Please contact us with details of your key to let us explain further..
