First things first, and let’s be VERY clear on this, there is no such thing as a good time to be burgled.

It’s an awful experience, no matter the month.

That said, there are some times that are less good than others.

This, the lead up to Christmas, is one such period.

It’s an unfortunate fact but now, when families up and down the UK are starting to turn their attentions towards the forthcoming Festive Season and all that it entails, is when the most ruthless intruders around are at their most active.

Now, when homes are starting to be stocked with all those gifts and goodies.

Now, when days are darker and illicit activities can be conducted in stealth.

Now, when w’re out and about, doing our shopping and making the rounds.

Now, when thoughts are elsewhere and our distraction proves to be costliest.

Burglars are opportunistic, this is in their nature, and the most enterprising will be well aware that their time is almost here.

For intruders, Christmas comes early. For their victims, however, it might not come at all.

Our advice is to use common sense and to take all possible precautions during the coming days and weeks. Statistics suggest UK households are never at greater risk than in the period leading up to Christmas. Do something about it, before it’s too late.

Lock all doors and windows. Check for weak spots. Secure outbuildings. Use lighting as a deterrent. Don’t leave precious items in plain sight. Set the alarm.

Think before posting sensitive information on social media. Close the curtains at night. Get a trusted neighbour to keep an eye on things when no-one is home.

Mark all expensive items. Keep presents in a safe place. Never feed extension cables for Christmas lights through partially-open windows.

If in doubt, think like an intruder. If something doesn’t seem 100% safe and secure, the chances are it isn’t.

Here at William Channon, w’ve seen too many Christmases ruined down the years . . .

Because a burglar managed to get in. Because the gifts, chosen with such love and care, vanished long before December 25th. Because, for one reason or another, someone didn’t take their security seriously enough.

Now is when YOUR home is at its most vulnerable.

Now is the time to do something about it.
